Scott R. Royster 

Scott R. Royster is Co-Founder and Non-Executive Chairman of Maarifa Education. He has had a long career in business with a specific focus on education, private equity and media industries. In 2009, he co-founded Latimer Education, a Washington, DC-based education company that helps traditional colleges and universities expand their market presence through the investment of capital, implementation of world-class operating practices and the development of online academic platforms. Prior to this, Mr. Royster was the CFO of Radio One, Inc., one of the largest media companies in the U.S, where he worked from 1996 until 2007. Within six years of his joining of the company, Mr. Royster grew the business from c. US$10m of EBITDA to over US$100m of EBITDA. Mr. Royster was instrumental in Radio One's 1999 initial public offering as well as in helping the company to raise several billions of dollars of debt and equity capital during his 11-year tenure. Mr. Royster has an MBA from Harvard Business School and BA from Duke University.

 

Alex-Handrah Aimé

Alex-Handrah Aimé is a Managing Director of Emerging Capital Partners (ECP) and head of ECP’s Johannesburg office. Ms. Aimé is responsible for identifying, analysing and recommending investments as well as investment appraisal, execution (including leading transaction teams), portfolio monitoring and exit. Prior to joining ECP in 2008, Ms. Aimé was with Goldman Sachs International’s European Special Situations Group in London where she focused on sub-Saharan Africa proprietary trading investment opportunities. Ms. Aimé has an MBA from The Stanford Graduate School of Business, a JD with distinction from Stanford Law School and a bachelor's degree cum laude in Biochemistry from Harvard College.

 

Carolyn Campbell

Carolyn Campbell is a Managing Director and founding partner of Emerging Capital Partners (ECP). Ms. Campbell is a member of ECP’s executive and investment committees. Prior to joining the ECP team in 2000, Ms. Campbell was a Senior Associate at White & Case LLP in the firm’s Warsaw, London, and Washington, D.C. offices. She was also an Associate Professor at George Washington University National Law Center lecturing on international negotiations. Ms. Campbell is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and French and a master’s in Economics. She received a JD from the University of Virginia and a PhD from Oxford University in Politics.

 

Hurley Doddy

Hurley Doddy is a Managing Director, founding partner and Co-CEO of Emerging Capital Partners (ECP). Mr. Doddy is responsible for providing overall leadership and strategy for the firm, including management of the investment staff. Prior to joining the ECP team in 2000, Mr. Doddy was an Executive Director at Sumitomo Finance International in London. Mr. Doddy’s career in finance began at Salomon Brothers in 1984, lasting over 14 years with assignments in New York, Tokyo and Sao Paulo. Mr. Doddy received a bachelor’s degree in Economics with honors from Princeton University and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation from the CFA Institute.

 

Bryce Fort

Bryce Fort is a Managing Director and founding partner of Emerging Capital Partners (ECP); he is also head of ECP’s Nairobi office. He is responsible for identifying, analysing, and recommending investments, performing due diligence and leading transaction teams. Mr. Fort is also deeply involved with operations and strategies related to the ECP management company. Prior to joining the ECP team in 2002, Mr. Fort worked for Deutsche Bank AG’s European Healthcare Corporate Finance Group. Mr. Fort received a bachelor’s degree cum laude in Computer Engineering with a minor in Economics from Lehigh University.

 

Paul Maasdorp

Paul Maasdorp is a Managing Director in Emerging Capital Partners’ (ECP) Nairobi office. Mr. Maasdorp is actively involved in deal sourcing, investment appraisal, execution and monitoring. Prior to joining the ECP team in 2010, Mr. Maasdorp worked with Berkshire Partners LLC, a Boston-based private equity firm with aggregate capital commitments of over $11 billion. Mr. Maasdorp began his career with Bain & Company working in their private equity and general consulting practices. Mr. Maasdorp graduated cum laude from Harvard College with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He also holds an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School.
